Weekly Puzzler #183: Iridescent Purple Bird with Huge Yellow Feet

Hi there! I hope you are having a fabulous Saturday! Have you made time to get outside lately? Have you seen any interesting wildlife? I hope so! Winter is a great time to get out and explore!

If you’ve never spent any time in Florida or along the Gulf coast, you may never have seen this next bird. As you can see from the photos below it has huge yellow feet (I was tempted to just show a photo of its feet but decided that would be too hard!) that it uses to walk on top of the floating lily pads in swamps, lagoons and marshes. Here are three photos:

Do you recognize this gorgeous red-eyed bird whose colors change with the light, sometimes appearing purple and other times looking more blue or even aqua? Know its name? If you know it, use the comment box below to give your guess. All blog subscribers who correctly identify it will be entered in the quarterly drawing.

Have a great rest of your weekend! See you again soon.

Claire, yes! You are correct. And yes, it sure is a striking bird— I love seeing them in the sunlight.
