Weekly Puzzler #255: Heard in the Fall, a Sound Clue

Hi all,

I hope you are having a great weekend and enjoying the last weeks before we step into fall. For today’s puzzler I decided to feature a sound clue from my recent travels out west. This sound comes from an animal that once used to be common throughout North America but now can be found primarily in the west, though there are small populations in western Pennsylvania and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You’ll only hear this sound in the fall and only if you’re in one of the states this animal lives.

Watch this short video and see if it’s a sound you recognize.

Did you know I’m doing a giveaway again and that you have a chance to win a FREE PRIZE? On December 1st I will pull one name from a hat to see which lucky blog subscriber will win a free custom sampler pack of my greeting cards. It’s a prize worth $25 and the cards are so beautiful you will have trouble giving them away. All you have to do to get YOUR name in the hat is 1. Be a blog subscriber (This means every time I publish a new post you will get notification in your email box. If you’re not already, you can hit the subscribe button in the upper right of the blog post page) and 2. Answer a puzzler correctly before the end of the weekend by using the reply box below the post. The more times you answer correctly, the more times your name will be entered in the drawing. Good luck! It’s doesn’t take much time to guess and you definitely can’t win if you never try.

Also, one more thing before you go:

If you live locally in western NC and are looking for something interesting to do tomorrow,(Sunday, September 19th, 2021) I’ve got the perfect event for you! Or if you need some fabulous perennials that attract butterflies like MILKWEED for monarchs  or some host plants for caterpillars like passion vine, zizia, or spicebush–then please join me at Sideways Brewery in Etowah.  Remember my post about the Tina James Magic Evening Primrose?

Well YOU TOO can host your own Tina James Magic Evening Primrose party as my friend Kim will be there selling these fabulous plants! Fall is a perfect time to add to your garden as the plants will have all winter to spread their roots and get ready to put on a show next summer.

If you go, you can grab a beer, get something delicious from one of the food trucks, walk around the flower fields, enjoy the Sunday, and visit the farmer’s market that will be set up there from 12-3:00. I’ll be there with Kim Bailey from Milkweed Meadows Farms selling some of my greeting cards, journals and nature games. I’d love to see you there! Please say hello if you come by and let me know who you are.

Here’s Kim’s plant menu for her sale tomorrow:

Hope to see you there!!
