Yes, I know we’re way out of practice since it’s been months since I’ve featured a puzzler, but I’m sure it won’t take long to get back in the swing of things. Hello! and happy weekend to you!
This week’s puzzler is a cool one and right now where I live in western NC, I am noticing it on the ground in many places. I live in the forest and have been collecting things recently for something I am working on for Etsy. This pale green “stuff” seems to be common here. It can be growing on fallen twigs or branches, but also sometimes is just loose on the ground, on nothing. I can pick it up and look closely at it.
Here are some photos.
Do you know what it is? Have you seen it in a forest near you? If so, please write to me! You can use the comment box at the end of this post to give your answers, or to just drop me a line. Click here to learn the answer to weekly puzzler #230
I have been findings these in the yard and they remind me of mistletoe
Yes I can see the similarities between this and mistletoe. I have learned a lot about it that I will share next weekend. Thanks for reading!
Barb— hello and thanks for reading! Yes! It is lichen. I will say more about it next weekend. Have a great day!
Is it lichen?

I am glad to be back! I have missed writing and being involved in my blog community. Thanks for taking time to write! Have a great weekend! —are you getting snow up there in the north country?
Hi, Sharon, I’m so glad to see you’re back with your column. I’ll bet a lot of people missed your weekly nature explorations.
I’ll also bet Puzzler #230 is some kind of lichen that is not found north of the Canadian border.
Murray! It is so nice to hear from you again. Thanks for taking the time to write. Of course your guess is correct, the puzzler is a kind of lichen. I will look it up to see if it can be found where you live. Have a good day!
Yes i have seen it. I have no idea what it is! can’t wait to find out!!!
It is hard not to see it, as it seems to be on the ground everywhere. Stay tuned. I will talk about it on Saturday. Meanwhile, have a great day!
