Weekly Puzzler #216: Short, Evergreen Plant with a Dark Green Leaf and Midrib Stripe

You may have you seen this next puzzler in a shady, wooded spot near you, especially if you are observant and enjoy looking for and identifying wildflowers. It has an attractive, dark green leaf that has a whitish stripe down the center and also along the veins of each leaf. It is easy to miss however, given its small size–less than 6 inches tall when the flower is in bloom. The flower is present in May and June, but like Trout Lily, faces downward, making it difficult to notice. It can be found in the eastern United States, from Illinois and Michigan to Ontario, then south to Texas and Georgia.

Check it out here:

Notice the dark green leaves and white stripe down the middle.
The small white flowers face the ground.
The leaf is ever-green.
The flowers before they open.

Do you recognize it? If you want to guess, I’d love to hear from you! Use the comment box below to give your guess, then check back next week to learn the answer.

Have a great weekend, Friends! Get outside and enjoy the beautiful gifts Mother Nature always has to offer.

Not fair because you’ve taught me to recognize them in our yard. What it isn’t is Rattlesnake Plantain

It’s easy to see you do listen to me! And with your great memory it is hard to puzzle you with a puzzler. Thanks for taking the time to read my posts!
