Weekly Puzzler #212: Fragrant, Aggressive Vine with Star-shaped Leaves and Twirling Tendrils

One day last summer while exploring I came across an entire field covered with a vine. It was thickly coating all of the other vegetation and I was amazed how it had taken over the area. The leaves are star-shaped, resembling Maple leaves and it holds onto everything in its path with a twirling white tendril that is quite attractive. Before the white flowers open, they too are star-shaped. The bees especially seemed to love this plant, landing on the small flowers with bee baskets on their hind legs full of pollen.

Here are some photos:

This vine was covering everything in sight!
Notice the Maple-like, star-shaped leaf
Wow! A landscape filled with this vine
A honeybee with a basket full of pollen
Here you can see the leaf shaped and white tendrils reaching out
Bees love this vine! Notice the star-shaped flower.

Can you identify this vine? Have you seen it on a property near you, or on your own property? If you know its identity, use the comment box below to give your guess. I’d love to hear from you!

Have a great weekend!
