Weekly Puzzler #203:Blue Bird with a Thick Bill

Hello and happy Saturday! Do you have some fun plans to do something outside this weekend? Are you ready to see if you can identify another mystery bird?

I will continue with the bird theme for just a couple more puzzlers. This next one is a beautiful bird that catches your eye because of its striking blue color. The entire bird is blue! (More accurately, the entire bird APPEARS blue!! Because,Did you know there is no such thing as a blue feather? The color of blue birds comes from the STRUCTURE of their feathers, not the color! This is much like why the sky looks blue–in birds, the blue color comes from the microscopic structures in the feathers that refract and reflect blue light.)

Check it out:

If you’d like to guess the identity of this puzzler/bird, use the comment box below to give your guess. And just a note here–did you know I will never use your information for anything other than responding to your comment? The only reason I require any information in the first place is because if I don’t do it this way, I get thousands of spam comments that jam up my inbox and make me search through them for legitimate responses. If you’ve commented before you know that there is a bit of delay before it gets published. Thanks for participating! I hope to hear from you soon!

Check back next weekend to see if your guess was correct.

Hi, Sharon, Puzzler #203 is an Indigo Bunting. It’s strange that I’ve only seen one bird, a male.

Murray, once again you are right! No surprise there. I hope you have a lucky sighting sometime soon. Thanks for participating in my puzzlers!

  2. One of fav’s for the summer. Repeated pairs of notes are his signature song though it takes some practice to hear it
