Weekly Puzzler #186: Quacking in the Forest

Hi friends,

As you may recall last week’s puzzler was of an animal track in the snow. I had planned to continue the theme of winter tracks for a few weeks since of course it IS winter but recent events in my yard have made me change gears. I know winter isn’t over yet and will return again to western North Carolina before long but we have had such amazingly warm temperatures for the past few days that many animals in my yard think spring has arrived! And so I will do a puzzler this week of an animal from my yard that announced to everyone within earshot that SPRING IS HERE! I will get back to the tracks another time.

Check out this video, taken just the other day of my yard. Do you recognize the source of all those quacking sounds?

If you have been with me as a blog subscriber for any length of time you probably will recall me talking about this animal, as I have done so numerous times throughout the years. But interestingly, I have never featured it in my weekly puzzler.  If you know the answer, use the comment box below to give your guess. As always, all correct answers will be entered in the quarterly drawing to win a free prize–the next one to be given away on the first day of spring.

Wherever you are and whatever the weather  in your neck of the woods, I hope your weekend is amazing! Do make time to get outside and enjoy the wonders the Mother Nature has to offer… see you again soon.

Hi, Sharon, I’m going to say Wood Frogs are making the quacking sound in your backyard, after thawing out, that is. Murray

Arden, no, it’s not a quail, but thanks for trying! It’s always nice to see you here. Hope your weekend was fabulous!
