Hello and happy weekend! How have you been doing with the cold temperatures and snow? Did you get some snow where you live? Here in Asheville we have been having some very cold temperatures and though we had one day with some huge snow flurries, nothing really accumulated where we live.
But since it is the time for snow, I am switching tracks from Florida birds to winter snow. The next few puzzlers will be animal tracks. Let’s see how well you know your tracks, starting with this one– a common track out in the forest this time of year.
Check it out here. Do you recognize it?
Here’s another, a close up, in less deep snow.
A key to identifying this track is that the animal’s smaller front paws are actually recorded behind the larger, back paws and that the two front feet are side by side, or pretty nearly side by side.
If so, use the comment box below to give your guess. All correct answers (from blog subscribers) will be entered in a quarterly drawing to win a free photo-related prize. The last winner received a sampler pack of my Beauty is Everywhere greeting cards. I haven’t decided yet what the next prize will be.
Tracks are not my forte but I am guessing raccoon.
I’m guessing gray squirrel.
Two guesses, one is right, one is wrong… thanks for reading and guessing!
A raccoon?
Because they are together in pairs, I’m guessing a hopping animal so rabbits and squirrels seem most likely They don’t look so big so maybe squirrels
Very good observations! Your guess is correct— these are gray squirrel tracks.
