When was the last time you hiked to the top of a mountain pass? Have you ever? Wasn’t the view great, and very worth the walk?
When I was recently in Banff National Park, I took the time to do a hike called Sentinel Pass, which is noted for the beautiful scenery, including the larch tree valley near the top of the mountain that is especially beautiful in the fall because the needles turn yellow. In the morning when I left the parking lot to begin hiking, the temperature was in the teens and snow covered the ground. Nearly the whole way before the pass was foggy so that we were left not knowing anything about the surrounding mountains. We walked in the cloud, getting glimpses now and then that hinted at amazing scenery.
And then! The cloud lifted for a few minutes and there was some blue sky, which was magnificent. We were surrounded by towering peaks and yellow larch trees. It was awesome!
Here’s a super short sneak peak into the 8+ hour hike. Take a minute to sit back and forget about everything else that’s going on in your life right now. Imagine you are there with me….then schedule time soon for a hike of your own!
Thank you for giving me peeks at vistas I am now too old to get to anymore. 😎
You are welcome, Arden, though I am sure you are not too old to reach some peaks yourself! If you can put one foot in front of the other, you can make it to the top!
