Spying on Wildlife–Who I’ve Been Watching

I was gifted a trail cam recently and have been having lots of fun with it, setting up in various places on our 17 acres of wooded land. For me, it is a bit like having Christmas every two weeks because I get as excited as a child on Christmas morning, anxious to to retrieve the SD card and discover who has been by. So far I have gotten to watch deer, raccoons, opossum, house cats, squirrels and, just this last time, a bear and coyote! It is thrilling to catch a quick glimpse of a wild animal, moving through the forest, minding its own business.

I always think it is exciting to be able to witness a wild animal, even if only for a short moment. I will be fascinated to continue my study and see if I can learn the habits of some of the animals we share our woods with.

  1. How exciting to get such footage on your trail cam! I have a screened in lanai at my condo that looks out to woods that drop quickly to a ravine. I get squirrel, raccoon and of course birds. In feeding the birds, which I have had to cut back to just Niger seed, I have attracted bear ( mother and cub) and a doe. The cub was climbing the railings of the lanai. Just a little too close but fascinating to be in the presence of the wild!

Arden, yes it was very exciting to get photos of these animals!Sounds like you have had some excitement watching animals too! As for bears, we have our feeder on a high wire and have to take it down nightly so they don’t get in the habit of finding a free meal. I am hoping to see a mama bear and cubs on the trail cam one of these days!
