Hello and happy weekend, Friends! Sounds like those of us on the east coast may be getting a lot of rain this weekend. I hope wherever you are you are safe and dry, ready for a new month. Hello October!
When I looked back over my puzzler list through the years, I was amazed that I have never featured these holes in sand that are common. These holes are usually in sandy places, sometimes with multiple holes close together.
Do you know what makes these holes or why they are there? Check out some photos:
Here’s one more photo:
If you have a guess or comment, use the reply box below the puzzler. As always, I’d love to hear from you! See you next time.
Hey Sara,
Thanks for taking the time to write! Your first guess was correct— they are ant lion traps. I will talk more about it next weekend. Thanks again for following along.
Before I even saw your pictures I thought Yahoo! Antlions who make the most adorable holes to catch prey. But theors are concave with intent. Then I thought crawdads, no not muddy enough. So these holes are in sand at a water source? You’ve got me on this one & I love your Puzzlers!!
My guess….sand crabs.
Hey Arden, Thanks for reading and guessing. Not sand crab evidence, but great guess! I think it wasn’t very helpful that the post didn’t specify where exactly the photos were taken. I’m sure that would have helped narrow it down. I’ll do better next time. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.
