Hello friends! Happy December.
Today’s puzzler is an insect that I saw while traveling in the fall home from the Adirondacks. We stopped at a campground in Maryland and spotted this spotted insect on a tree beside the site. This is an important fact, as you’ll discover next week when you learn the answer. When we began actively looking for more, we found many, most of them gathered together on the trunks of maple trees.
Also, as a hint, you might never have seen this insect, but it’s possible and likely that you’ve heard of it and know what it looks like as it’s quite famous. Or should I say infamous?
Here are some photos:
Do you know the identity of this insect?
Have you gotten your name entered in my quarterly drawing yet? If not you have only three more chances. To be entered all you have to do is use the reply box below the puzzler to give a guess about the puzzler’s identity. You don’t even have to be correct! Then follow me on Instagram. It’s that simple! I pull a name from the hat near the first day of winter, spring, summer and fall. For this month I will pull a name on December 18th, rather than on the actual day (21st) that winter begins because the greeting card sampler pack makes a great gift and maybe the winner will want to give it away for the holiday. If you win I’ll get in touch and get your address, then send it to you. Good luck.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Spotted lanternfly. (But you could say that I cheated because I used the App “seek”.) Love your Blog Sharon! I live in British Columbia, and have never been to North Carolina, but my brother, who lives in Texas, is planning on moving there and sent me the link to your Blog.
Hey John, Welcome, and thanks for getting in touch. I love to hear how people found me. I’m glad the puzzler inspired you to learn what it was–you were just using available resources! Have a great day!
Ah ha I was suspect it might be the dreaded spotted lanternfly, but someone beat me to the answer! Glad you posted such great pictures so we an be on rhe look out!
Sara, yes, I wasn’t happy to see them, but I was happy to get photos so I could help spread the word.
I agree with John
