This week’s puzzler is another one that you may know they name of, but not much else. It is often seen in Cypress swamps and other wet destinations, but many other places feature this striking green stuff.
Here are some photos:
Can you identify it? Do you know anything about it? Here’s the answer
Have a good weekend! It’s almost March!
Hi, Sharon, I think Puzzler 232 is Bearded Lichen, also known as Methuselah’s Beard or Old Man’s Beard. I love your photo of the swamp with backlit trees draped with it. I know the tree, but then I lost it like a bird that takes flight before you expect it to. Sycamore?
Earlier this morning it was snowing with big, fluffy flakes/crystals, but I was caught unprepared to photograph them before it stopped. I hope for more snow to come – it’s not spring here yet.
Hey Murray, puzzler #230 was Bearded Lichen, or just like you said, Methuselah’s Beard or Old Man’s Beard. No snow here! In fact today was a warm 60+ degree day. I hope you get some more snow for you to photograph– you’ll have to share some with us. We’d love to see them.
It’s Spanish moss and it’s filled with chiggers!
You know I have read that about the chiggers several times now, but I didn’t know that about it–I will confirm with research before the weekend, but thanks for telling me. I’m glad I didn’t collect any to bring into the house!
Spanish moss?
Hi Flo! Nice to see you here, and yes, Spanish moss was the answer to weekly puzzler #232. Thanks for reading!
