Happy Saturday to you! I hope as you read this you are having a fabulous weekend. Are you doing anything special for the Easter holiday?
This week’s puzzler features another small bird, though this one is a lot more secretive than the song sparrow from last week’s puzzler. Roughly the same size as a song sparrow, (6 inches) this bird is far more likely to be HEARD rather than seen it as it lives in the forest and easily disappears among the brown branches of the trees or the leaf and fern-covered forest floor.
I bet though that as you were hiking down a wooded trail or visiting a waterfall, you have heard this bird shouting rapidly in crescendo, to all in earshot, “teacher, teacher, teacher!!”
This bird lives throughout eastern and central North America and the video was made locally in western North Carolina. You can hear a roaring river in the background, full from spring rains.
Do you recognize this bird? If so, use the comment box below to give your guess.
Have a good rest of your weekend! See you again soon.
Hi, Sharon, An Ovenbird; I could tell what #196 is by your title alone, but I wanted to continue to see what you had to say about it. I played the video, but the bird wasn’t singing the repeated, strong, two-syllable ”TEAchur’ song I’m so used to hearing. Murray
Murray, I love that you can identify it before even seeing it or hearing it! Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment. Hope your weekend is going well.
Is this perhaps an ovenbird??
Arden, Yes it is! Great guess, thanks as always for reading,
You’re right. A bird more often heard than seen – Ovenbird
You got it! Thanks for reading.
