Weekly Puzzler Answer #169

Did you recognize the lovely plant from last week’s puzzler as Jewel Weed?

Jewel weed can often be found growing in wet places, along roadsides, by lakes and rivers and is frequently found in the same places as poison ivy. The juice from its hollow stalk is said to help with the itchiness of the rash caused by poison ivy, mosquito bites and other itchy ailments. I can say I have tried this in desperation and that for me, it never seemed to make a difference. Maybe for some people it does. Have you ever used it to treat the itchiness of a rash and had success?

Jewel weed is also called touch me not, or impatience, both because of the fact that the seed, when it gets full and ready, the slightest touch will send the seeds flying, up to 6 feet away from the mother plant.

Have a great weekend! See you again soon.
