Honoring Mothers: A Photo Essay

Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom and to all Mothers out there whether you are a dog Mom, child Mom, cat Mom, goat Mom or flower Mom! Let’s celebrate all Mothers today, including the animal mothers who love their offspring with the same fierceness as a human mother.

Here’s to Mothers of all species–we may think we’re better than them, but are we really?

A mama white-tailed deer and her fawn.
Mama turkey with her growing brood.
Mama goose with her hungry goslings.
A longhorn cow and her young calf.
A human mama and her smiling baby!
Mama woodchuck and her baby.
A Jamaican fruit-eating bat (Artibeus jamaicensis) is carrrying her pup in flight in Jamaica. Learn more about bats at MerlinTuttle.org
A mama marmot and her baby.
A mama mountain goat with her young.
A mama moose with her young calf.
A mama kingbird on her nest.
A mama wolf spider with her babies on her back.
A mama robin feeding her growing babies.
A very dedicated mama swallow trying to keep up with the big family.
A mama baboon in Africa.
A mama swallow trying to be invisible on her nest.
Adult female Eastern red bat (Lasiurus boralis) roosting with her twins in Texas. Learn more about bats at MerlinTuttle.org
A mother little epauletted fruit bat (Epomophorous labiatus) carrying her half grown pup in flight in Kenya. Learn more about bats at MerlinTuttle.org
A mama black bear with her two very little cubs.
A mama grizzly bear with her two growing cubs in Alaska, teaching them to hunt fish in the river.
A mama elephant and her two calves.

I long for a world where we can celebrate and treat ALL Mothers with kindness, respect and compassion.

I will vote for the world I want with my actions and my pocketbook. A kinder, more humane world is possible. Wouldn’t you like to be part of that world too?
