Weekly Puzzler 292: Underwater Gelatinous Blobs

Amazing that we’ve already reached the last weekend in April. On to another month! May is one of my favorite months because I get to experience the magic of the blue ghost fireflies nightly for two weeks! I hope you’ve gotten to see some firefly magic in your lifetime, and that this May and summer, you are treated to some more.

This week’s puzzler is a pretty challenging one. When I was in the Adirondacks of upstate New York last fall I stumbled upon TONS of these gelatinous blobs under the water just past a small dam. The water there was shallow and lots of rocks were coated with these small, tubular masses, that when the sunshine hit them, shimmered like gold. The sheer amount of these globs was amazing!

Here are some photos. See what you think.

In the stream is where I found these gelatinous masses.
Different sizes, but all mostly long and skinny tubes.
Some were off by themselves.
Most were with a lot of others in big groups.
On some rocks there were TONS!
When the light hit them just right, they shimmered with gold dots!

I’d love to hear from you! Give your best guess and your name will be entered in my quarterly drawing. Just use the comment box below this post.
