Today’s puzzler features a lot happening in a small space. Check out this picture below. You will notice a few ants along the leaf, and then some yellow shapes, of varying sizes on the same leaf. What’s going on here? Do you know why the ants are here? What are the yellow shapes and why are they different sizes?
Here’s another photo on a different plant, also with ants and tiny, green shapes. Why is the ant here?
I’d love to hear from you so if you want to guess, you can use the reply box below the post. Have a great weekend! See you again soon.
The ants protect the aphids because the aphids excrete a nectar that the ants like.
The ants do protect the aphids! And the aphids do excrete a sweet liquid that the ants love. You are right! Thanks for reading and taking the time to write.
My guess is they are feeding off of something like aphids.🤔
Arden, you are on the right track…stay tuned for more. Thanks for reading and taking the time to guess.
The ants are ‘milking’ the aphids for the sweet, nutritious fluid the latter suck from the plant.
Murray, you are correct! Thanks for reading and taking time to write.
