Here is western North Carolina, there are subtle changes that fall is right around the corner. Our cherry tree has lost most of its leaves, the ferns at the edge of the woods are turning brown, spider webs are everywhere, caterpillars can be seen crossing roads, looking for a spots to overwinter, mornings are frequently cool, and the fields are full of goldenrod and other fall-blooming flowers. Often blooming right next to goldenrod is a lovely purple flower that decorates many meadows and seems to be a magnet for butterflies. Its purple flowers are a perfect compliment to the yellow of the goldenrod. Have you seen it? Do you know what it is?
Here are some pictures. It is the purple flower behind the goldenrod.
