If you guessed Turkey feather as the answer to last week’s Puzzler, you are correct! This is a feather from the wing of a Wild Turkey.
Adult wild turkeys have between 5000 and 6000 feathers, including 18 in their large tail and 28 or 29 in each wing. It is not unusual to find shed feathers in the woods and fields where they live. Did you know a male’s gobble can be heard over a mile away? Or that the average lifespan of a wild turkey is 3-5 years?
