1 Minute Meditation: River Time

Some of you may know that I took a backpacking trip with some friends recently to Great Smoky Mountains National Park to see a special kind of firefly called the synchronous firefly. The trail we hiked hugged a most beautiful river the entire way, making it very challenging for me to keep moving. Every few steps I would see another something interesting that I felt compelled to stop and photograph. I realized very early on that I must return alone so I can spend all the time I want without pressure that I am not making enough (or any!) forward progress, AND, I will bring my tripod…. Special thanks to my trail companions who were super patient with me and never once complained about always having to wait.

…so the scene is set. It is late spring. Imagine that you are walking beside a rock-filled river, the constant sound of water accompanying your every step. When you stop and look closely, you notice how many of the rocks in the river are covered with thick, green moss. There are lovely reflections in the still pools of water close to the edge and the morning lighting makes the trees and rhododendron lining the river paint the water a glorious golden-green color. When you close your eyes, the music soothes you, chasing away any thoughts but the here and now.

What do you think? Was it easy to imagine you were there? Do you think it is somewhere you’d like to visit?

One Minute Meditation:Falling Water

Imagine you are standing beside a towering waterfall, one that rises above you more than 70 feet. As you look up your face is gently misted by falling water. You can hear nothing over the sound of the water. No one else is around, only you. You close your eyes and listen to the constant sound of liquid hitting the gray rocks and splashing into the shallow pool…

1 Minute Meditation: Water Art

Okay, so maybe not everyone loves rainy days and maybe you’ve never looked in the water for art–in which case, this video’s for you!

Stop what you’re doing. Set the To-do list aside. Clear your mind of clutter. Then take time for this one minute video–a bit of peace in your day.

Imagine you’re sitting beside this body of water, watching as the patterns on the water dance back and forth. Then later, a gentle rains falls on the surface of a creek, the drops making circles on the water’s surface beneath a flowering dogwood, bursting with white flowers. Watching them is mesmerizing!

Let me know what you think of this one minute meditation.

Weekly Photo Challenge #3

So last week’s theme was SERENITY, which I admit thinking was about the easiest theme ever as so many photos of nature could be interpreted that way. Special thanks to Arden for sending in a few photos. I know I was supposed to publish this yesterday, but I held off, hoping I might get a few more images from someone out there.

I have about a million photos that depict SERENITY, but when I got going with this, I really didn’t want it to be about me, I wanted it to be about YOU, my readers. Even so, I have put together a short slide show.

I will try one more theme–but maybe will give it a few weeks for people to get outside and capture it, rather than publishing it next Wednesday, though I suspect it will then be “out of sight out of mind.” But I will try anyway.

The next photo challenge theme is: Spring. Have fun with it! There is so much you can do with that! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Just email your images to me at sharenaturemore@gmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon!
