Quote of the Week #45

Do you know someone who is always doing nice things just because– not to be recognized or noticed, but just because s/he is a kind, generous and thoughtful person?

rain-1546I live on a windy, two lane road with my house being nearly 3 miles from the main road. There is frequently trash along the road, everything from fast food wrappers to bags and beer cans and anything in between.

Every couple of months my husband heads out on foot to pick up this trash, walking the 3 miles on one side and then returning on the other side. Sometimes this takes him all day! He carries with him a backpack full of orange bags, leaving them beside the road as they full up.

No one thanks him for this.

No one, other than me, even knows he does this.

His only reward is being able to drive down our road and see the beauty of the landscape, not the trash.

I think this is amazing, especially given that some of the same trash (beer cans) keeps reappearing in the same places every day, suggesting that the same person is responsible. This would frustrate me to no end and I would get tired of picking up after this thoughtless and inconsiderate person! But my husband keeps on picking up the same beer cans and other garbage, month after month after month. He has been doing this for years now!

And that brings me to this week’s quote–two actually because I couldn’t decide:

A man is GREAT by deeds, not birth.  –Chanakya

and

rain-

Let your good deeds be like rain…Drop a little everywhere.

Here’s to good deeds and people who do them– even on the sly. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are an inspiration to us all. We need more people like you!

Who do YOU know who does good deeds regularly–just because?
